MADAME ALEXANDER

Madame Alexander was an American success story stacked with adversity — daughter of immigrant parents who took the challenges of life to make an unprecedented success of her now iconic doll company. Established in 1923, the business evolved from her first cloth dolls to introducing composition dolls in the 1930s and the newly available plastics after WWII. Alexander guided her company through the Great Depression, war, and dramatic cultural changes. Yet, her "Golden Era" dolls of the 1940s and 1950s remain favorites of collectors, museums, and a new generation of inquiring minds.
